How we got started

Noksana Mushing Tours was funded by the ITI (Industry, Tourism, and Investment) GNWT grants, the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation, and the Tuktoyaktuk Community Corporation, with support from the Inuvialuit Land Administration, the Tuktoyaktuk Hunters and Trappers Committee, and the Hamlet of Tuktoyaktuk.

Bruce Noksana has been a competitive and well-known dog musher for more than two decades in the Beaufort Delta region of the Northwest Territories. He has won several dog mushing competitions and trained many sport-hunting dogs. Bruce wanted to combine two of his favourite activities together and share them with the world. He is a knowledgeable hunter and has travelled all over the region throughout his life. As a member of the Inuvialuit from Tuktoyaktuk, Northwest Territories, he has spent his life enjoying the natural, traditional, and sustainable way of life as is prevalent in his culture. He, therefore, wanted to share the important dog mushing and training activities with a larger number of people even beyond his traditional community.
